The Software Engineering (SE) study program was established at IUS in 2015 as the second addition to the growing portfolio of IT programs, addressing the increasing demand for expertise in software development. The timeline below, titled "Key Milestones in the Development of the IT Programs at IUS," highlights major events, including the launch of the SE program as a pivotal milestone, alongside other new programs, international collaborations, and significant infrastructure advancements.
The SE study program falls under the Technical Sciences area, specifically within the Information and Computing Engineering field. Most core courses align with the scientific branches of Computer System Organization, Software Engineering, and Computing Methodologies, forming the foundation of the bachelor and master programs. In addition to these core branches, the SE study program also include compulsory courses from the branches of Theoretical Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Probability and Statistics within the field of Mathematics.
The primary objectives of the SE program are to equip students with both general and specialized competencies in software engineering. It focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, methods, tools, and procedures necessary to produce a wide range of reliable software solutions. Most courses include practical work, such as weekly sessions in computer laboratories, where students strengthen their technical and research skills. Project‑based learning, combined with liberal arts courses, prepares students for crucial soft skills such as teamwork, written and oral communication, which are essential for successful careers.
Software engineers can pursue careers in businesses, government agencies, non‑profit organizations, or as freelancers. Depending on organizational needs, they may specialize in roles such as analysts, quality assurance specialists, developers, architects, or managers. Academic specializations are also available for those interested in research or teaching. Graduates of the SE program have excellent opportunities to continue their studies in postgraduate programs at IUS or at other universities worldwide.
